Welcome To My Cruising Log

Hello, everyone.
As some of you know, I'm now in Mallorca, Spain on my sailboat, Eidos. I'm thinking of staying here for the winter with perhaps a visit to mainland Europe, and Canada over the holiday season. Right now it is still sunny and hot during the day but getting cool at night and I've started turning on the heater first thing in the morning. Winter is approaching. Yesterday we had a solar eclipse together with a new moon. I hope that's a good sign for the days to come.
I hope that this will be a good way of keeping my family and friends up to date with what I'm doing. The nice part of blogs is that people with whom I've lost touch over the years might be able to find me again and renew our connection. And dear friends and family, as you read this, perhaps forward this link to those who might remember me. Thanks.

Until next time,
Barbara

Barbara,

This is great. I'm looking forward to reading about your adventures! Glad you liked our blogs too!

We have a small sailboat, but I don't think it'd make the journey across the ocean!

Can't wait to read more!

Hi Barbara,

Hope you don't think I'm flippant, but 30 euros is a lot of money for a day on your boat; harbour charges are not cheap certain places, (but most are ok), diesel for a 20hp and food is very cheap 'down there'. I would have loved to have sailed the fall with you, but frankly cannot afford your high cost for lodging.
I like, on the other hand, your involvment.

Anonymous, Thanks for your comment,
I have been struggling with the issue of shared expenses and will address this in a post on my other blog:www.seagypsyexpeditions.blogspot.com

Meanwhile, check this out if you want to sail on a small budget.

And if you'd like to do some work in exchange for sailing, please contact me.

Barbara, what a nice job on the blog and what fantastic pictures! I spent an easter on Ibiza when I was 17. It was nothing back then in '67; it looks very continental now. I'm still in Jacksonville, Florida (regretting my decision to help my brother start another company). Hoping now to have my HR 36 back in the water in Maine this coming summer and be back to a meaningful life afloat! Edios looks like a lovely boat!
Re the 30 € per day charge, I take issue with your other commenter, $25 a day in the US is very common on any boat. Female skippers ALWAYS command a premium....what's he thinking?
Where are you these days? Barcelona was the favorite city of my misspent youth, (I bleieve the quote is "a misspent youth is a joy forever"). Anyway, perhaps someday we'll cross paths.
Tell me how you integrated flikr and your blog? Really functions well together.

HI Barbara, Came across your blog this evening. Very interesting, and my dream. I'm retired but still drive the harbor launch in Westport, Ma. part time. Love being on the ocean. Sold my boat last year. BIGGGGG MISTAKE!!! Actively in the market for another. I do like the southern cross 31 and valient 32 also. Happy Sailing,
Ray (rayawl)

Hi Barb: I'm envious of what you have done and are doing. Would love to talk to you over coffee the next time you are out on the west coast.

Hi Barbara,
Been following your site for some time now, and glad to see your dreams come true.
Looks like Eidos is stuck in Levkas for winter, but guess you passing back through UK as I write (Dec 2008) on your way to rejoin her.
Have done some sailing in Greece with my father in law, and now having closed my biz, got plenty of time to enjoy life.
When you know your itineray for 2008, let me know and maybe I can make it out for a week or 2.
(My full details are on www.findacrew.net - member 29214) or post a reply to this and I will get back with my email.
