As I get older, it's not as easy to sail away anymore. My joints are getting stiff and I need a nap in the afternoon. It is often too much effort to raise the anchor, hoist the sails, sail for several hours and then search for a safe harbor where I can tie up for the night. So, unless I have good crew, my magic carpet is for the most of the summer anchored in a lovely bay near a small town in Greece.
While changing my lifestyle from sailing most days to staying in one place for several weeks, I adapted my boat to a more leisurely pace. I now have rigged up a full size sun awning as well as invited some freshly cut flowers, house plants, and kitchen herbs to share my space.
Sadly, I have to give away a small cedar tree that a friend gave me when it was just tiny. She gave me two. I already gave away one of them and now it's time to give away the second one. It's too big for a small boat and it needs a garden to grow deep roots. Luckily, a friend knows someone who has a house and some land in Nidri. May it grow tall and strong.
I am not ready to move from my floating home with a 360 degree view of the sea. I don't think I ever will. But I can see that I will need to adjust my lifestyle a bit.
