It's time to publish once again some house rules for guests and helpers on board Eidos. Most of these should be obvious and anyone who is house trained knows them. But we all need reminders, so here they are specifically for my boat:
* If you found it open, leave it open, if you found it closed, close it. This includes doors, windows, drawers, kitchen cupboards.
* If you drain it, refill it. That goes for water in the filter jug as well as shower bottles and containers.
* If you used the last one, add it to the shopping list or buy it.
* If you spilled it, mop it up
* Leave it better than you found it.
* Put it back where you found it.
* Wipe off and dry the counter in the kitchen and bathroom each time you use the sink.
* Put the lid back on the toilet. Unless you like fishing in it for your toothbrush.
* When you are going out, take the garbage and recycling with you don't just step over it. I am not your servant.
* After swimming bring the ladder back up. This keeps it from rusting and banging on the boat.
* Take your fully charged phone with you at all times.
* If you dirty it, wash it right away, not tomorrow.
* If you break it, fix it or buy a new one as soon as possible. I shouldn't have to remind you.
* Your two hours of work does not include rowing to town, shopping, or sailing. If you are not sure, ask.
* We sail when I want to. If you want to sail, charter your own boat.
* We are going to do things my way on my boat. Feel free to make suggestions, but I have the final word. In your home, you can do things your way, such as leave dishes till morning.
* If you turn a light on, turn it off as soon as possible. Pretend you are in a car. Charge your phone when it's sunny and the solar pannel is producing electricity. The days are long, try to accomplish all your tasks in the daylight.
* We live on my schedule, not yours: up at dawn, quiet from sunset. You knew that when you signed up.
* Water and cooking gas are precious. Add to the kettle only as much as you need for coffee. This saves both water and gas. And most importantly, turn off the gas in both places when you are done cooking.
* This is not a hotel, there is no maid. Keep the boat tidy.
#99 Be on time or if you are delayed, use your phone. That's what it's for. Communication. 😂
If I have to remind you of these simple rules more than twice, you will not be invited back. If more than three times, you will be asked to leave early. Perhaps it's time for me to become more independent and not rely on helpers so much.
