Work, work, work!

Yesterday, I was very happy to have two gentlemen helping me. First thing in the morning, Bennett and I moved Eidos to the floating pontoon. However, while maneuvering close to the dock, the transmission cable snapped. Luckily, I was able to drift to safety with the help of Bennett and a man from a nearby boat. The last time this happened, I was alone in Ajaccio, Corsica in 2006, so I suppose it was a high time to replace the cable. 

Danie, the man on shore offered to help with the repair and so after coffee and pastries, Bennett emptied the cockpit locker for access. Danie then pulled out the damaged cable. After lunch, while Bennett started washing the forward part of the boat, Danie and I went to the chandlery for a new one. He then spent more time fitting the new cable. In return, I offered him dinner that Bennett cooked and tiramisu that I made. Plus, I gave him a large coil of oversized anchor rode that was too heavy for my boat. 

And this morning, Nouli, the diver arrived to see about a leak in the dinghy. He couldn't find an obvious hole, so suggested that I spray paint it with a special rubbery coating. Is seems that the whole surface is paper thin from sun damage. Time to look for another dinghy?

Later on, Jacob, the carpenter came to check if it was possible to repair the damage to the teak trim. He took away the trim to see if he could make a new one and will be back tomorrow to cut off the screws that held it on.
